Who doesn't enjoy a peak behind the scenes? We filmed our "Byker Hill" music video at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama. Despite the short sleeves and sunshine, this was actually a few days after Christmas (typical Alabama weather). We were down south visiting Julie's folks for the holidays, and Josh just happened to receive a spiffy new camera as a gift...
...which means that everything you see in this video was filmed using brand new equipment! We were both genuinely amazed at the quality of the images (you can actually hear us saying "ooooooooooo" and "That looks amazing!" in the background of some of these clips). And Sloss was a visual feast of rusty metal and blue skies, so it was the perfect place to explore.
Another funny detail: you'll see an iPhone lying on the ground in a few of these clips. We were using it to play the "Byker Hill" track as we filmed--that way we could make sure we stayed on tempo and Julie's mouth lined up with all of the words in the song! You can hear her singing along with the studio recording in this behind-the-scenes video.
"Byker Hill" was the first track that we recorded for our upcoming album, The Knotted Circle. We're lucky that we had a copy of the track on hand in December so that we could take advantage of Sloss furnaces and Josh's unexpected new camera! Everything was filmed on the fly and we couldn't be happier with the results.
